The Reading Enhancement Scheme (RES) is part of the requirements of the Sacred Heartist Award for All-round Development. Please refer to your Student Companion for further details.

The RES is an extensive reading scheme. It aims to promote self-study through reading. The two essays to be included in the folder for this reading scheme should demonstrate different thinking skills e.g. discussion, comparison, analysis, evaluation, review and originality. The essays must be written about a topic you have extensively read and thought about since September. News cuttings and creative writings are not acceptable. The essays must address what is found in the reading texts with a clear reference list at the end of each essay. One of the essays must be written in English.

To attain the RES award, applicants must first collect signatures from teachers about their quality reading-related coursework. It is a must to read extensively about different subject  in both languages, that is, Chinese and English.

Students must finish Bronze Level before moving on to Silver, and then Gold Level. Students cannot complete two Bronze Levels in return for a Silver Level; neither can they ask for a Gold Level Certificate with two Silver Level Certificates. When applying for Silver or Gold Level, students must provide duplicate copies of certificate(s) of Bronze or Silver Level awarded the previous year. Students can only attempt one level in a year.
